The Pirate Republic on the New River

This past summer the swashbuckling invasion of The Pirate Republic showed no mercy as it landed on the New River, making an impressive stance in the old Shirttail Charlie’s location. Hosting a successful grand opening party with 2500 people in attendance proved that the ship was here to stay; what could have been sheer mutiny was nothing short of “booty brilliance”! The Pirate Republic has been a wildly popular scene for boaters and landlubbers alike. Curiosity alone will draw you to the pirate’s ship flanked with 1200’ of dock space and ample parking; no privateer is safe from the beckoning wily ways of the patch-eyed intrigue. No car? No boat? The water taxi services The Pirate Republic, so no excuses; you’ve got to see what this fleet of fun is all about.

Roberto and Claudia Guerios are the proprietors of The Pirate Republic, the sister restaurant and bar to The Pirate Bar and The Pirate Shop on A1A in Fort Lauderdale. The Guerios’ are no strangers to hard work or the intriguing lifestyle of pirates and life at sea; for thirty years Roberto and Claudia lived in the Caribbean on their “schooner” or if you will, Pirate Ship. A change in lifestyle landed them in South Florida five years ago and they’ve been docked here ever since. The Guerios’ passion for what is real and true has led them to success with their Pirate businesses on the beach and by living their lives by the right “code of conduct” they literally walked into The Pirate Republic and set it up for success. The transformation into the dynamic locale that it is was no small feat but in a matter of months the Guerios’ opened the crowned jewel of their pirate empire.

The main attraction is the pirate-ship bar with a 25-foot mast that reaches up to the vaulted ceiling is on the top floor of the restaurant which is the main bar area where bands play from 9pm -4am on the weekends. It is without a doubt THE place to be seen and with happy hour Monday –Friday from 4-7 all drinks are half price and $1-off beers. The drink specials draw in the crowds but its Claudia’s brilliantly designed and delicious menu of fresh fish, oversized burgers and overstuffed sandwiches that keep everyone in their seats. The kitchen serves up these hearty selections daily from 11am to 4am.

The restaurant sits just under 500 people so there is plenty of room and plenty of fun to be had. This fun, eclectic themed restaurant overlooks the historic New River Inn district on the New River and is an entertaining and enjoyable venue for luncheons and meetings. The staff is welcoming, quick and helpful. You’re there to have fun and The Pirate Republic team will see to it that you do, their motto, “Fair winds and following seas” so matey, I say, get there “schooner” rather than later and “plunder your booty” just a little at The Pirate Republic, you’ll be glad you did.
