D’Angelo Pizza, Wine Bar and Tapas has been one of the most anticipated openings of the season. D’Angelo is the sister venue to the highly acclaimed Casa D’Angelo Ristorante. I had the opportunity to sit and talk with the warm and gracious Angelo Elia about his newest foray into the world of wine bars and casual eateries and as you would expect this venture is not a fad or a passing whim but a dream and a plan that has been in Chef Elia’s mind for as long as he can remember.
A modern, hip, fun gathering place resembling those in Milan and New York City is what D’Angelo Pizza, Wine Bar and Tapas is all about. Chef Elia’s main goal with this new concept is to create a casual, feel good, get-together place offering great food at a great price. Angelo Elia has been in the restaurant business since he was nine years old and was taught from day one that “the guest is #1 if the guest is happy then you are happy”. By bringing the culinary talents of Casa D’Angelo to everyday accessibility and affordability I would say that makes the surrounding neighborhood of Oakland Park very happy.
D’Angelo is sleek and mod with its smart wine bar running the length of the open kitchen. D’Angelo has an appealing city style tone; it’s where the beautiful go to sip and savor, it is without a doubt where you want to be. The food is gorgeous and sumptuous making the pairings with wine exceptional. Sometime this summer the wine flights and food pairings will take off; and for that I wait with bated breath!
The selection of imported Italian meats and cheeses are displayed on boards that compliment the impeccable Italian wines on the list. Menu selections such as Ceviche and Carpaccio, Tapas and Wood Oven Frittata’s make the wine pairings all the more interesting and exotic. The D’Angelo wine bar is a stunning place for a date, impressive and delicious for meeting friends and absolutely inviting if you happen to be alone.
