Stephanie Savors the Moment, a great food and wine blogger

This week’s blogger in the spotlight is a woman of many talents and many passions none of which fall short of good taste, literally and figuratively.

Stephanie Miskew is the force behind Stephanie Savors the Moment a blog paying homage to the James Beard Award-Winning Junior League of Boca Raton’s cookbook, Savor the Moment, Entertaining without Reservations. Savor the Moment has been in publication for 10 years now. I remember the ‘pink sheets’ way before it ever became a book. I was one of the 300+ women who contributed to that outstanding and dynamic piece of history many years ago. Stephanie is borrowing inspiration from the movie “Julie and Julia” and is cooking her way though Savor the Moment. While I cannot say I prepared all 255+ recipes I can say I did test about half of them and when I learned of Stephanie’s quest I just laughed and actually started reciting certain recipes, funny what stays with you.

As a Certified Specialist of Wine Stephanie has taken her exceptional knowledge of wine and her love of food and has paired them perfectly on her site, taking readers on a tasteful and insightful journey into the world of “good taste.” Entertaining and informational Stephanie covers all the bases of Savor the Moment and after all these years Savor the Moment continues to remain delightful and delicious and most definitely something to be proud of. So it is with great pleasure that I am able to introduce to you Stephanie Miskew of Stephanie Savors the Moment a blog paying tribute to the James Beard Award-Winning Junior League of Boca Raton’s cookbook, Savor the Moment, Entertaining without Reservations

South Florida Food and Wine: How did you start food blogging?
Stephanie Savors the Moment: It grew out of my love of food and wine and was a great way to document memorable experiences and share them with friends and family.

South Florida Food and Wine: Do you do anything else other than blog about food-wine-beverage?
Stephanie Savors the Moment: When I’m not writing about, taking photos of, or indulging in food & wine, I’m a Speech-Language Pathologist.

South Florida Food and Wine: What is the most challenging thing about blogging?
Stephanie Savors the Moment: Finding the time to write in the midst of all the cooking, eating and wine tasting! Also, making sure everything is “just right” before clicking that “Publish Post” button!

South Florida Food and Wine: What is the greatest opportunity that has come from blogging for you?
Stephanie Savors the Moment: The opportunity to connect with food and wine bloggers all over the world. I love learning about High Tea in London, truffle hunting in Provence and the hottest restaurants in Australia – so fun!

South Florida Food and Wine: What is your most memorable blogging moment?
Stephanie Savors the Moment: Definitely getting my first comments and followers of the blog that weren’t my immediate family and friends.

South Florida Food and Wine: It’s your last day on earth, what would your final meal be?
Stephanie Savors the Moment: It would have to be a multi-course tasting menu including (but not limited to) pan-seared foie gras, frisee aux lardons with poached egg, duck confit, lobster mac and cheese, and braised short ribs with appropriate wine pairings. For dessert, profiteroles and bread pudding.

South Florida Food and Wine: What super-action-hero would you like to be and why?
Stephanie Savors the Moment: Martha Stewart – really, what can’t the woman do?

South Florida Food and Wine: Do you have any wacky cooking habits?
Stephanie Savors the Moment: I like to listen to loud music while I cook which drives my husband nuts and I also make a music CD for every dinner party I have. If you come over for dinner, you’re going home with a CD!

South Florida Food and Wine: What is the best food advice you have to share?
Stephanie Savors the Moment: Be adventurous and try new things and don’t forget the wine!

South Florida Food and Wine: What is your one obsessive kitchen habit?
Stephanie Savors the Moment: Taking pictures of everything I make.

South Florida Food and Wine: If you could choose to be any food, what would it be?
Stephanie Savors the Moment: Is Champagne a food?

South Florida Food and Wine: If looked in your refrigerator, what would I find?
Stephanie Savors the Moment: Organic skim milk, capers, and truffle oil (I never use them together though). Oh, and a chilled bottle of sparkling wine, you know, just in case.

Stephanie Savors the Moment: Unloading the dishwasher

South Florida Food and Wine: What is the most exotic food you have ever eaten and where?
Stephanie Savors the Moment: Pata Negra at Chez L’Ami Louis in Paris.

South Florida Food and Wine: What is the most bizarre thing you ever did with food?
Stephanie Savors the Moment: This is PG-13, right? In that case, lit it on fire – I am a big fan of the flambé.

South Florida Food and Wine: What is the most extravagant food or beverage item or culinary tool you spent money on?
Stephanie Savors the Moment: A bottle of Harlan Estate wine.

South Florida Food and Wine: Where was the best meal you ever had? And why?
Stephanie Savors the Moment: It was at Café Boulud in Palm Beach for my birthday a few years ago. I got to plan the menu with Chef Zach Bell and Pastry Chef Jennifer Reed and select wine pairings with Sommelier Jenny Benzie. Such talented people! Then I got to share it with my family and friends which is really what it’s all about anyway. Share
