Dinner at Jet Runway Café

Last week I took part in a blind wine tasting experience and dinner at Jet Runway Café in Fort Lauderdale. Jet Runway Café is a very unique venue, off the beaten path and a little tricky to find because it is exactly as the name states, a café on a jet runway. Once you walk into this hanger-esque building you cannot help but be in awe of your surroundings. A restaurant in the middle of a runway with oversized windows boasting views of private jets parked, taxiing, landing and taking off; an amazing sight. Jet Runway Café is the sister food and beverage operation to the highly regarded Silver Lining Catering. We had the opportunity to enjoy the sumptuous food of the Silver Lining kitchens from seafood, to pasta to beef all expertly paired with the wines entered into the competition. Our five course menu for the evening was
Lobster, Crab and Coconut Ceviche. Poached Lobster and King Crab marinated in citrus with pickled coconut and olive oil. Paired with Chardonnay from these wineries Phelps Creek; Castillo de Amorosa; Deerfield; Mattebella

Crisped Pan Seared Salmon with braised red cabbage and parsnip puree with a balsamic reduction. Paired with Pinot Noir from these wineries – Russian Hill; Z’IVO; Gauthier; Papapietro

Hand Rolled 3 Mushroom Ravioli with a pesto cream sauce, a Cabernet reduction and topped with fresh herbs. Paired with Cabernet Sauvignon from these wineries Pope Valley; Mithra; Seven Hills; Barnett

Syrah Braised Short Rib with a sage infused winter root vegetables hash. Paired with Syrah from these wineries Michael-David Earthquake; Bianchi; Brochelle; Hyde Vineyard

And completing our dinner was a delightful array of Viennese desserts and fresh fruit.

I’m still so pleasantly surprised to have discovered Jet Runway Café, the five course wine dinner was one thing and now knowing that they are open for breakfast and lunch at very affordable prices; breakfast prices start at $5 and lunch prices start at $8. Jet Runway Café is definitely in the flight plan for a great meeting place with dynamic ambiance. Jet Runway Café is closed for dinner as they host private dining events (similar to the one I went to) in their dining room for up to 80 people. It’s always the hidden jewels that have so much to offer, you just have to find them. Jet Runway Café 5540 NW 21st Terrace Fort Lauderdale, FL 33309 (954) 958-9900.
