Las Olas is starting to see a jolt in new restaurantopenings, M Bar, Las Olas Wine Café, and Cheese Culture along with a few morescheduled just in time for season. Last week I had lunch at M Bar, a globaltapas eatery, which is a clever tagline leaving themselves open to many menu incarnations.M Bar is a vast handsome venue with a sleek, clean design.
The M bar itselfis the centerpiece of the restaurant with ample seating framing the mod-style bar. Both the lunch and dinner menu offer the customary small and medium plate sizesof their tapas as well as a bar snack menu with $4 and $5 offerings of FriedChickpeas, Crispy Pig Ears, French Fries and Deviled Eggs. For lunch the pricesstart at $6 and scale to $17. The dinner menu pricing also starts at $6 for thesmall plates and slides up to $29 for the medium size plate of the 10oz Bone-in-Ribeye. Both menus offer interesting choices such as Fried ChickenWatermelon Salad, Spicy Sea Beans, Crispy Sweetbreads and Pork Belly as well asan assortment of seafood; Tuna Sashimi, Scallop Ceviche, Grilled Octopus andFried Grouper Tacos.
There are 40 or so craft beers both on tap and bottled; forguests who have trouble deciding on what beer to order a flight of 4 beers ontap might be the way to go for $9. The beer prices range from $4.50 for a MagicHat #9 on tap to $18 for a 750ml bottle of Steenbrugge, Blond. For the lessadventurous beer drinker Bud, Heineken, Miller Lite and its relative cousinsare also available for $4 and $5 a bottle. Martinis and other flavored cocktailsrange in price from $10 to $20, the highest being The Dirty Elite martini madewith Stoli Elite vodka.
The wine list has just as many wines by the glass as thebeer list with some pretty interesting choices such as Petit Syrah, Albarino, Meritageand Gavi. The wines by the glass begin at $9 for a Banfi Maschio Prosecco Brutand top off at $17 for a glass of Santa Margherita Pinot Grigio.
For our tapas sharing lunch we had, the Spicy Sea Beans ($7),Fried Grouper Tacos ($9), Homemade Ravioli ($17), the classic Chorizo and Clams($13) and the Skirt Steak Flatbread ($12) along with the flight of tap craftbeers. The fun part about “going tapas”in general is the sharing and being open to experiencing new things that youmight not otherwise be open to trying.
