Dinner at Bourbon Steak Miami

Bourbon Steak is located within The Turnberry Isle Resort in Aventura, Florida. What started out as a request to interview Matthew Turner, Sommelier at Bourbon Steak Miami on his award winning wine list ended up being a four and a half hour tour of sheer epicurean and oenophile pleasure; this my treasured readers is what the afterlife must be about, so come with me into the light of Bourbon Steak Miami.

Matthew Turner, Sommelier at Bourbon Steak Miami, keeper and guardian of the two-time prized Wine Spectator Best of Award of Excellence for his wine list. Matthew lives wine. What breathing is to you and I, varietals, terrior, and vintages is to Matthew. There are 900 selections of wine on the Bourbon Steak wine list and Matthew has sampled, tasted and enjoyed all of them and can tell you about each of them. Matthew can pair your dinner with wine and take you to places of gastronome you cannot even imagine. No dinner is complete without its proper wine pairing and Matthew did just that; properly pair wines with each of the five courses I enjoyed. Matthew holds daily classroom wine sessions with the dining service staff teaching and training them about the magnificent world of wine. I had an opportunity to sit in on one of the wine classes and there is no question in my mind that whether it is Matthew Turner or any member of his staff you question about a wine selection you will be guided towards the right choice.

It was an absolute thrill, course after course each one more exciting than the previous, I simply did not want this experience to end and did not give much thought as to how much food and wine I could possibly consume in one sitting.

My dining experience started with a refreshing and perfectly chilled Scallop Ceviche garnished with Cilantro, Grapefruit and served with Espelette Crackers paired with IRON HORSE CUVEE MICHAEL MINA BLANC DE BLANCS, Sonoma 2000.

Staying with the chilled courses we were then served a splendid Sungold Tomato Gazpacho garnished with Peekytoe Crab, Avocado and Basil served with PACO & LOLA ALBARINO, Rias Baixas, Spain 2007.

Our next course was a rich and velvety smooth seared Hudson Valley Foie Gras with Star Anise and Bing Cherries perfectly paired with THE RARE WINE COMPANY BOSTON BUAL, Madeira.

My entrée choice was American Kobe Rib Eye Filet that melted in my mouth served with Castelvetrano Olives, Arugula, and Olive Oil-Poached Marble Potatoes served with a magnificent CHATEAU MOULIN DE TRICOT BORDEAUX BLEND, Haut Médoc, France 2004.

And no dinner is complete without dessert, but what about three desserts? (I couldn’t make up my mind!) The desserts I ever so sinfully indulged in were Doughnut Tiramisu with Mascarpone Mousse and Espresso Syrup the freshest and most delightful Peach Crisp with Blackberry Sorbet and a trio of cool, refreshing Chef’s Selection of Sorbets that was the perfect ending to the magnificent dinner all paired with a tremendous dessert wine, DR. LOOSEN BEERENAUSLESE RIESLING, Mosel, Germany 2006.

Bourbon Steak is a participating restaurant in Miami Spice, a restaurant promotion program that gives restaurants an opportunity to showcase their very best cuisine inclusive of a three course meal during the summer months of August and September for $35/person. The gazpacho, my entrée, the American Kobe Rib Eye Filet and all three desserts are items on the Bourbon Steak Miami Spice menu. I highly recommend that you take full advantage of Miami Spice and visit Bourbon Steak. You will undeniably be WOW’d! thrilled and in awe of dining at Bourbon Steak. To miss a dining experience at Bourbon Steak would truly be missing out on something extraordinary.
