The official name is Racks Downtown Eatery & Tavern. Racks is located in Mizner Park behind the valet area. Happy Hour is served daily; Saturday-Thursday 4pm-7pm and Friday all day from 11:30am – 7:00pm. Racks’ Happy Hour is solid with a half price bar & bites menu including the raw bar. Monday night we found ourselves in Mizner Park and decided to give Racks a whirl; we weren’t seeking out a Happy Hour it just happened upon us. It was 6:55pm and we had 5 minutes to take advantage of the Happy Hour pricing; our server “hooked us up” and made sure we were well taken care of, with 5 minutes to spare. And this scenario set the tone for our experience. The server could have let the time lapse, he did not have to tell us about the Happy Hour. It’s situations like this when the server simply does his job that makes myself and others want to brag about the restaurant. It’s a shame it’s come to this, thinking a place is all that because people actually do their jobs; but as we all know there are a lot of servers, bartenders and greeters in equally as many restaurants who just go through the motions, at best, and deter people from ever coming back. I’m a fan of Racks, both in Boca and Delray Beach. They’ve put the whole package together nicely; they train their staff well, they serve good quality food and their Happy Hours are always happening.
At $1 each we couldn’t pass up the opportunity to order a dozen Bluepoint Oysters complete with a mignonette sauce.
We’ve had some hits and misses lately with shrimp. Probably one of the easiest items to place on a menu and serve, yet so many restaurants are serving defrosted waterlogged shrimp, trying to pass it off as fresh; and I’m not talking about chain restaurants either, making this all the more disappointing. Racks nailed their Shrimp Cocktail.
This was the highlight for me; Charcoaled Ribs, apple bbq sauce on the side. BBQ Ribs are like Key Lime Pie, everyone thinks they can make them. They can’t. It’s always a great find when you discover a place that does it right, and right on.
