I was due for another food truck rendezvous so I stopped by Arts Park in Hollywood last night and made the rounds. Every Monday night there is a food truck gathering in Arts Park at Young Circle from 5:30-9:30pm.
Old school, and long time favorites of mine, The Rolling Stove, Ms. Cheezious and Jefe’s Original Fish Tacos & Burgers were there as well as some newcomers, HipPOPs handcrafted gelato bars, Che Grill, The Health Nut on Wheels, and Sugar Yummy Mama. It was fun catching up with my old friends and I’m happy to see them all thriving and surviving; this food truck business isn’t easy, so to see them all around after three and four years still hitting the road is a success story in and of itself.
Arts Park at Young Circle really is a lovely area smack dab in the middle of the city playing host to a very family friendly event; I noticed many people know the truck owners by name, so I’m assuming there are many “regulars” who gather weekly for their favorite foods, and to discover new ones, at very affordable prices. Most of these food trucks don’t have a store front so they rely on roundup events like this and their regularly scheduled daily stops throughout the tri-county area to build their business. Ms. Cheezious and Jefe’s Original Fish Tacos & Burgers are in the process of opening restaurants to compliment their food truck business, both new locations are scheduled to open late 2013 in Miami.
Last night was a bit hot and humid, so I grabbed me a Lemon-Mint gelato bar from HipPOPs; it so worked. I’m not one for dipping and toppings like chocolate and nuts, just give it to me straight up and pure; this gelato bar did not disappoint. I don’t doubt that I’ll be hunting down and stopping for my HipPOP fix all summer.
Need more sweetness? Sugar Yummy Mama is always representin’ with her sweet cakes, cupcakes.
Big surprise of the night, The Health Nut on Wheels. A healthy food truck alternative. So if you’re not into fried foods, burgers and cheesy-wonderfulness like I am, something like the Chicken Paleo dish might be in order.
The weekly schedule of food truck attendees can be found here at Miami Food Trucks. With 25+ trucks in attendance weekly it’s hard to eat from each one in one visit. With all the new trucks on the scene and the new menus and specials that the Old Schoolers put out, waiting four months to visit doesn’t seem so viable anymore. See you again real soon at Arts Park……Click here to view all the photos from last night
