Comfort Food at South Florida Food and Wine, a sure cure for what ails ya

Comfort food cure-alls, while I don’t condone using food or drink as an emotional fix, at times, some foods just can pick you up and spin you around for the better. I’ll admit, in between my juicing days I’ve been comfort-fooding it lately. Comfort food over here at South Florida Food and Wine doesn’t necessarily play into nostalgia or Mom-in-the-kitchen-hearty-homemade dishes, but rather really good tasting food that I can’t stop thinking about. Not-your-typical comfort food is what you’ll find here. If you’re looking for meat and potatoes with lots of gravy, you might find it but you’ll also find the best vichyssoise, moules frites, and key lime pie. Today I’ve got a roundup just too good not to share, so here goes, the South Florida Food and Wine comfort food recommendations, a sure cure for what ails ya, especially on a rainy day.

Jefe’s Original Fish Taco & Burgers, Patty Melt with Bacon

Jefe’s Original Fish Taco & Burgers food truck is my go-to fish taco guy; Jefe’s tacos are true ensenada style, they’re not all bogged down with unnecessary filler or flavors, it’s just a pure and simple fish taco with fresh ingredients; last week I finally gave in and had Jefe’s Patty Melt with bacon. Another simple food done right; a killer burger with cheese, grilled onion and bacon between two pieces of grilled sourdough bread.

Taqueria Huetamo, Carnitas Plate

Taqueria Huetamo in Delray Beach is my favorite no frills place in South Palm Beach County; so much so I’m there at least once a week. Taqueria Huetamo serves authentic Mexican food made to order, done right, quick  and cheap. My three go-to items on the menu, the Carnitas Plate, Assorted Tacos and the mammoth Chimichanga de Asada. Located in the Linton Square strip mall on the NE corner of Congress and Linton. 1499 S Congress Ave  Delray Beach, FL 33445

And I do believe that somewhere in the definition of comfort food is the term grilled cheese. And my favorite comes from my friends over at Ms. Cheezious food trucks. Sometimes melted swiss on rye just won’t do, you need to style it up a bit; comfort food over here at South Florida Food and Wine is about the fancy-fat, you knowfood that’s all jazzed up; that’s why the Mushroom/Grilled Onion/Brie sandwich has been created just for me.

In keeping with the fancy comfort food, is my newly discovered Croque Madame with Frites at Pistache French Bistro in West Palm Beach. As easy on the eye and tempting as this picture may seem, this little gem is not easy on the calories, you may want to share, (I didn’t); I feel it is worth every single indulgent bite, but be prepared to walk Clematis and Flagler, to ease your splurge.

  1. I will probably raid my refrigerator within an inch of its life — this was not a good post to read before lunch. My mouth is watering over your ‘comfort food’.
