Delray Beach Wine and Seafood Festival Silver Oak Cellars and Twomey Wine Seminar

In its third year, The Delray Beach Wine and Seafood Festival in partnership with Republic National Distributing Company present a series of  vintner education and food and wine pairing symposiums. In ancient Greece, a symposium was defined as a drinking party. “The Greek symposium was a key Hellenic social institution. It was a forum for men of good family to debate, plot, boast, or simply to revel with others.” - Wikipedia. In modern times, symposium has a more refined connotation; a gathering of specialists and experts on a particular topic discussing and delivering information on the said topic. There are eight vintner symposiums, and one chefs panel discussion at this years festival. Renowned wines from around the world will be presented, discussed, tasted, and paired with food from equally celebrated local chefs and their restaurants.

The Wines presented will be from Plumpjack Winery/Cade, Banfi Vintners, Cakebread Cellars, Tattinger Champagne, Silver Oak Cellars/Twomey, Joseph Drouhin, ZD Wines, and Chalk Hill Estate Winery.

Silver Oak Cellars and Twomey wines will be paired with a tasting menu from Whole Foods $45. Click here to purchase tickets for any of the seminars.

Silver Oak Cellars and Twomey

Silver Oak Cellars and Twomey

Twomey Cellars (pronounced too-me) is a California winery. It was established in 1999 by the Duncan Family, who have operated the successful Silver Oak Cellars in California since 1972. The Duncan Family started Twomey Cellars to pursue varietals other than Cabernet Sauvignon. Twomey has two wineries; one in Calistoga in the Napa Valley, and one in Healdsburg in the Russian River Valley, and produces Pinot noir, Merlot and Sauvignon blanc. Twomey’s Sauvignon Blanc is a blend of Sauvignon Blanc grapes from their estate vineyards at their wineries in Napa Valley and Russian River Valley.

Twomey Cellars Merlot, 96% Merlot, 4% Cabernet Franc
Winemaker notes: “Our 2010 Soda Canyon Vineyard Merlot is a vivacious wine that displays ideal ripeness from a uniquely cool California vintage. It has a dark garnet color and a complex nose of cherry liqueur, dark chocolate, pipe tobacco, lavender, cloves and hazelnut. On the palate, it has a velvety mouthfeel, a full body, beautiful acid balance and a long, juicy finish. Given proper cellaring, this wine should give drinking pleasure through 2027.”

Twomey Cellars Pinot Noir
Winemaker Notes: ”Our 2012 Russian River Valley Pinot Noir is a rich, multi-faceted wine with great fruit and spice expression. It has a dark, cherry-red color and a complex nose of potpourri, ripe strawberries, cardamom, nutmeg and peat. It has a fruit-sweet attack, a fleshy mid-palate and notes of blond tobacco and coffee bean on the long and slightly tannic finish. With proper cellaring, this wine will give drinking pleasure through 2024.”

Twomey Cellars Sauvignon Blanc
Winemaker Notes: ”Our 2013 Sauvignon Blanc beautifully combines citrus, pear and green apple characters in a complex and balanced expression of this exciting varietal. It has a light straw color and a nose of grapefruit rind, juniper berry, star fruit, green apple, pear and elderberry flower. It has a juicy, fruit-sweet attack with notes of honey and citrus on the palate. The wine has a long, lingering, fresh fruit finish.”

For 40 years, Silver Oak Cellars has been producing exceptional, food-friendly Cabernets that are extensively aged to be drinkable upon release. Perfect for big dinners or impromptu celebrations, the Alexander Valley and Napa Valley Cabernet wines are as distinctive as they are delicious.

Silver Oak 2009 Napa Valley Cabernet Sauvignon - 84% Cabernet Sauvignon, 8% Merlot, 4% Cabernet Franc, 4% Petit Verdot
Winemaker Notes: “Our 2009 Napa Valley Cabernet Sauvignon is a ripe, rich, layered, yet elegant wine. It has a dark, ruby color and a complex nose of cassis jam, mocha, violets and nutmeg. On the palate, the wine has a delectable berry-laden entry and a rich, mouthcoating mid-palate. The tannins are beautifully integrated and the wine has a long, satiny finish. Given proper cellaring, this wine should give drinking pleasure through 2032.”

2010 Alexander Valley Cabernet Sauvignon
Winemaker Notes: “Our 2010 Alexander Valley Cabernet Sauvignon is a vibrant, elegant expression of this classic appellation from a cooler vintage. It has a deep garnet color and an enticing nose of cassis liqueur, blueberry coulis, tobacco, tarragon and roasting coffee. The seamless palate starts with a berry-laden attack, follows with a full-bodied mid-palate, and ends with a long, savory finish with fine grained, well integrated tannins. Given proper cellaring, this wine should give drinking pleasure through 2031.”
