Delray Beach Wine and Seafood Festival ZD Wine Seminar

In its third year, The Delray Beach Wine and Seafood Festival in partnership with Republic National Distributing Company present a series of  vintner education and food and wine pairing symposiums. In ancient Greece, a symposium was defined as a drinking party. “The Greek symposium was a key Hellenic social institution. It was a forum for men of good family to debate, plot, boast, or simply to revel with others.” - Wikipedia. In modern times, symposium has a more refined connotation; a gathering of specialists and experts on a particular topic discussing and delivering information on the said topic. There are eight vintner symposiums, and one chefs panel discussion at this years festival. Renowned wines from around the world will be presented, discussed, tasted, and paired with food from equally celebrated local chefs and their restaurants.

The Wines presented will be from Plumpjack Winery/Cade, Banfi Vintners, Cakebread Cellars, Tattinger Champagne, Silver Oak Cellars/Twomey, Joseph Drouhin, ZD Wines, and Chalk Hill Estate Winery.

ZD Wines will be paired with a tasting menu from Eclectic Eats, restaurant, lounge & garden. Click here to purchase tickets for any of the seminars.

ZD Wines

ZD is a favorite wine country destination for folks who enjoy world class Chardonnay, Pinot Noir and Cabernet Sauvignon. Situated in the heart of Napa Valley in picturesque Rutherford, ZD is surrounded by gorgeous vineyards. Over the years, our passion for wine and outstanding hospitality have gained ZD recognition as a Napa Valley favorite offering unrivaled world class wines. A visit to ZD presents the opportunity to taste reserve wines, library wines and limited production wines named after ZD Cofounder Rosa Lee deLeuze, available only at the winery. The small production “Rosa Lee” bottlings offer visitors a unique opportunity to taste and purchase a varietal not normally produced by ZD. Past varietals have included Barbera, Petit Verdot, Zinfandel, Sauvignon Blanc and Viognier.

ZD Chardonnay 2013. Winemaker notes: ”2013 harvest to mark ZD’s 45th vintage. An ample number of warm days and cool nights allowed for very slow ripening and optimal flavor development. Bright forward aromas of guava and tropical fruit are complemented by subtle hints of orange blossom and sweet vanilla. The palate is full bodied and lush with notes of pineapple, mandarin and lemon rind that integrate wonderfully with natural acidity and subtle oak.”

ZD Chardonnay 2012 Reserve Chardonnay. Winemaker notes: ”The 2012 growing season was near perfect for varietals across the board. This allowed the fruit at ZD’s organically farmed Carneros Estate vineyard to ripen and develop slowly in order to reach the ideal maturity we look for each year. This Chardonnay has plentiful aromas of pear, apricot, orange blossoms and sweet, toasty vanilla. The palate is rich and full bodied with ripe apricot, green apple, a hint of lemon zest and subtle toasty oak notes that all integrate beautifully on the finish.”

ZD Pinot Noir 2012. Winemaker notes: “This Pinot Noir made with grapes harvested from a Napa Valley Carneros vineyard has a medium ruby color and aromas of briary strawberry and raspberry preserves. Subtle hints of vanilla give way to a lush, silky palate with more bright fruit, rhubarb, and cedar notes. Ten months aging in French Oak barrels resulted in a delicious Pinot Noir wine with great depth and complexity.”

ZD Cabernet Sauvignon 2011. Winemaker notes: ”This 2011 Napa Valley Cabernet Sauvignon is a great example of ZD’s commitment to producing powerful yet balanced Cabernet Sauvignon, even in a challenging growing season. Briary black cherry, cassis and lavender aromas are complemented with subtle hints of anise, tobacco and a hint of juniper. Sweet, toasty vanilla and spice add depth and complexity. On the palate, lush, silky tannins envelop the core of forward black fruit. Perfectly integrated oak rounds out the long finish.”
