Express Lunch at La Mar by Gaston Acurio at the Mandarin Oriental Miami

The waterfront restaurant, La Mar by Gaston Acurio offers diners the chance to experience and explore the authentic flavors of Peruvian gastronomy with an Express Lunch; three courses for $25 Monday-Friday; for an additional $7 a Sommelier selected glass of wine is offered as part of the prix fixe lunch. La Mar is housed at the Mandarin Oriental on Brickell Key, this alone may cause most to be cost-wary, however, three hour complimentary valet parking is available along with the set lunch menu making an afternoon visit amenable to most locals and visitors to the area. The waterfront restaurant is complete with patio seating on Biscayne Bay and a view of the Brickell skyline, at $25/person for a three course lunch, it’s quite the bargain.

The food at La Mar is an upscale compilation of novo-Andean fare, Asian-Peruvian fusion, and traditional seafood cebiche. Novo Andean is non-traditional ingredients blended with Peruvian staples, and cooked in both traditional and non-traditional ways. Asian-Peruvian fusion a combination of bold Peruvian flavors balanced with delicate and pure Asian cuisine, and Ceviche /Cebiche (“seh-BEE-chay”) is raw fish marinated in an acidic fruit juice, usually lime, salt, and seasonings. You don’t need to be food adventurous to visit La Mar, as there is pretty much something appealing to just about everyone on the menu, inclusive of meat eating landlubbers and pescatarians. The flavors are balanced, and flavorfully astounding; Executive Chef [of La Mar] Diego Oka learned well from Acurio and his personal culinary stamp on the menu is worth a leisurely lunch on the magnificent Biscayne Bay.
