On Tuesday, October 6th MIRA Winery will host the wine pairings for our Guest Chef Supper series with DADA Delray Beach. MIRA winemaker Gustavo Gonzalez will be at the wine dinner presenting his wines. The dinner will be inclusive of five courses all paired with the below listed wines. Gustavo Gonzalez began his professional winemaking career as a laboratory technician at Robert Mondavi Winery in Napa. Demonstrating both an expedient assimilation of the winemaking process as well as creativity and innovation, Gustavo’s zeal for winemaking was recognized early in his pursuit. His uncanny intuition makes him the expert winemaker he is today. Gonzalez partnered with Jim “Bear” Dyke Jr. in 2009 to launch Mira Winery, which produces a limited amount of single vineyard wines from well known Napa Valley AVA Districts Stags Leap, Los Carneros and Rutherford, and from such highly prized vineyards as Stanly Ranch, Hyde and Schweizer. Gustavo Gonzalez is an accomplished winemaker responsible for some of the most famous wines in Napa Valley, and enjoys a well-earned global reputation, having made wine around the world, he speaks English, Italian, Spanish, Portuguese and German. Despite the winery’s relative youth, the wines Gonzalez is producing at Mira are already creating a buzz with the Napa Valley Register identifying Mira as a “brand to watch.”
Mira is the Latin root of “miracle,” and its logo is the symbol for a good harvest. Mira Winery harvests grapes by hand from the best blocks sourced from the previous mentioned Napa Valley vineyards. Gonzalez’s midas touch brings the best out of his MIRA wines by letting them express what the vines produce from year to year.
Our personal palate here at South Florida Food and Wine favors the MIRA Chardonnay, Rosé, and Syrah. The MIRA Chardonnay hinted at classic California on the nose with a rich, oak bouquet, but on the palate it presented itself as “the new California Chardonnay” with citrus, floral and slate components revealing itself as a crisp and refreshing wine, yet rich with substance and delightful layers of hidden flavors as it warmed up in the glass. An experience wine worth the higher end price tag. The MIRA Rosé was anything but delicate but rather surprisingly sophisticated, with many layers complexity showing off its stunning Napa Valley Pinot Noir foundation. This wine is going to stun with the pork belly course at the DADA Supper. And the MIRA Syrah showed off strength yet vulnerability as it softened in the glass. There are so many layers of flavor and nuance with this Syrah that paired with the dessert course will blow the guests’ minds and palates at the DADA supper.
MIRA Hyde Chardonnay 2013 Hyde Vineyard has produced some of the most acclaimed Chardonnay from Napa Valley. It began in 1979 when Larry Hyde began planting in this incredible area of southern Napa Valley with east facing slopes, gentle sun exposure and cool coastal influence. Winemaker notes: Delicate aromas of citrus, pear and orange blossom with a hint of spice. A classic representation from Hyde Vineyard that includes a nice balance of citrus and floral flavors with a clean slate finish representative of the grapes’ origins. The complexity of the wine results in increasingly diverse flavor characteristics as it sits in the glass. 100% Chardonnay. SRP $65
MIRA Pinot Noir Rosé 2013 Winemaker notes: A beautiful light copper color foreshadows the luxurious nature of this Rosé of Pinot Noir. The aromas delight with an intense fresh strawberry nose, followed by a floral element of wild flowers. The wine embodies the smell of Spring. On the palate, the wine delicately incorporates a clean citrus character. The finesse of this wine permits it alone to substitute for the classic combination of strawberries and Champagne. 100% Pinot Noir. SRP $27.
MIRA Stanly Ranch Pinot Noir 2013 Winemaker notes: Seductive, bewildering and racy aromas that lead to blueberry, cranberry and morel mushroom flavors enveloped in a sexy, beguiling perfume. A wine that delivers pleasure wrapped in a luxurious, fine lace-like delicious texture. 100% Pinot Noir. SRP $48
MIRA Cabernet Sauvignon 2011 Winemaker notes: Black pepper, schist, dried leaf nose. Cedar, licorice and black cherry flavors complement elegant lush tannins that provide lift to the long, persistent finish. 90% Cabernet Sauvignon, 5% Cabernet Franc, 5% Merlot. SRP $52
MIRA Hyde Syrah 2011 Winemaker notes: This Hyde Vineyard gem reveals espresso, charcoal and violets followed by waves of salty caramel, boysenberry and licorice. Youthful restraint surrenders to graphite, roasted and sanguine meats, while hints of white pepper accompany the palate through a long and winding finish. 100% Syrah. SRP $42
