Wine & Opera at the Broward Center for the Performing Arts

Just in time for Valentine’s Day, Riverwalk Arts & Entertainment District presents its “Amore with Norma” promotion, available Thursday, February 11th, and Saturday, February 13th.

Through the promotion, participants will enjoy a wine tasting, featuring two wines from the same grape variety, with Broward Center Arts Ambassador and James Beard Award winning wine authority Lyn Farmer, at the Broward Center for the Performing Arts’ Intermezzo Lounge. Farmer will illustrate how a “sense of place” impacts a wine. The tastings will be presented immediately before Florida Grand Opera’s 7:30 p.m. performances of Norma, the opera that best exemplifies the great bel canto style and stands as Bellini’s most successful composition.

One of the most famous operas of the 19th century, Norma is set in Roman-occupied Gaul. The Druid priestess Norma has consorted with the enemy, the Roman leader Pollione, and has secretly borne him children. But his interests have shifted to Adalgisa, one of the temple virgins, and passions flare. Norma is driven to murderous jealousy by her lover’s infidelity and sees to it that the guilty atone for their crimes. The conclusion of Norma has been called one of the finest moments in all musico-dramatic literature.

This limited offer is a first-come, first served. The Intermezzo Lounge is open to guests who have purchased the package, beginning one hour prior to the performance and during intermission. To purchase the “Amore with Norma” package or for more information, visit and use the code Norma20
