Next weekend, December 9-11 is the Oakland Park Holiday Village weekend at Jaco Pastorius Park. The three day event will feature vendor artists, crafters and food artisans; a family friendly event, spotlights visits from Santa Claus, rides for children on the Oakland Park Holiday Express [train] and a Children’s Corner sponsored by Safeway on Friday, December 9th from 6-9pm with a Holiday Cookie Decorating Workshop; Saturday, December 10th is sponsored by Holy Cross Hospital with a Craft Workshop and Sunday, December 11th is hosted by The Home Depot with a Children’s DIY Workshop. A DJ will kick-off the event on Friday night with live music throughout the day on Saturday and Sunday closing out with headliner bands Wildfire with Randi on Saturday and Mr. Nice Guy Band on Sunday. A Christmas Tree decorating competition pits 30 local businesses against each other competing in three categories for Best Tree. A people’s choice category is also slated where event attendees will be able to vote for their favorite tree. After the weekend-long event, the decorated trees will be donated to 30 families in-need in Oakland Park. Highlighting the city’s Culinary Arts District moniker, The Home Depot Oakland Park Kitchen Tent will host culinary and cocktail demos from 11:30AM-3:00PM on Saturday and Sunday. Food demos will be presented by local Oakland Park Restaurants and cocktail demos will be sponsored by Diageo brands, Ketel One Vodka, Ron Zacapa Rum, and Don Julio Tequila. The Diageo Lounge is open to event attendees who purchase cocktails at the Big Dog Sation cash bar throughout the weekend. The cocktails that will be demo’d, sampled and for purchase in the Diageo Lounge are Ketel One Apple Cinnamon Mule, Zacapa Spiced Cranberry Cocktail, Ketel One Citroen Bloody Mary, and Don Julio Holiday Paloma. Below is the cocktail demo schedule and recipes of the drinks.

Saturday, December 10th:

1:30PM Ketel One Apple Cinnamon Mule presented by Dianna Greene, Regional Ketel One Vodka Ambassador

3:30PM Zacapa Spiced Cranberry Cocktail presented by Conor Adair, Reserve Portfolio Manager, Coastal Wine and Spirits

1.5 oz Ketel One Oranje Vodka

.5 oz Cinnamon Syrup

.5 oz Fresh Lime Juice

1 oz Apple Juice or Cider

2 oz Fever Tree Ginger Beer

Combine Ketel One Vodka, cinnamon syrup, fresh squeezed lime juice and apple cider in a shaker with ice. Shake vigorously and strain over fresh ice in a copper mug. Top with Fever Tree Ginger Beer. Garnish with a few apple slices and a whole cinnamon stick.

Cinnamon Syrup Recipe:

1 cup water

1 cup sugar

5-6 whole cinnamon sticks

Bring water and sugar to a boil until sugar dissolves. Turn off heat and add cinnamon sticks. Let steep for at least 15 minutes. Cool and strain into a clean container. Store refrigerated up to 45 days.

 

Zacapa Spiced Cranberry Cocktail

Zacapa Spiced Cranberry Cocktail

1 oz Zacapa 23 Rum

1 oz Ketel One Citroen Vodka

.5 oz Cinnamon and Clove Syrup

2 oz Cranberry Juice

Add all ingredients to a shaker tin with ice. Shake vigorously, Strain into a chilled martini glass. Garnish with fresh cranberries.

Cinnamon and Clove Syrup Recipe:

1 cup water

1 cup sugar

5-6 whole cinnamon sticks

¼ cup whole cloves

Bring water and sugar to a boil until sugar dissolves. Turn off heat and add cinnamon sticks and cloves. Let steep for at least 15 minutes. Cool and strain into a clean container. Store refrigerated up to 45 days.

 

Sunday, December 11th:

1:30PM Don Julio Holiday Paloma presented by Vanessa Leon, Regional Specialist, Diageo

1.5 oz Ketel One Citroen Vodka

2.5 oz tomato juice

Pinch kosher or quality sea salt

Pinch freshly ground pepper

Pinch of celery salt

Small spoon of freshly ground horseradish

2-4 dashes hot sauce

2-3 dashes Worcestershire sauce

1 fresh-squeezed lemon wedge

Combine all ingredients in a tall glass over ice. Roll contents from one glass into another to combine ingredients, repeat 2-3 times until well combined. Garnish with a celery stick, olives and a lemon wedge. Optional: Rim glass before building with Old Bay Seasoning.

1.5 oz Don Julio Reposado Tequila

.5 oz Cinnamon Simple Syrup

2 oz Freshly Squeezed Grapefruit Juice

1 oz Fever Tree Club Soda

Combine Don Julio Reposado Tequila, Cinnamon Syrup and grapefruit juice in a shaker tin with ice. Shake vigorously. Strain into a highball glass over fresh ice. Top with Fever Tree Club Soda. Garnish with a thin slice of grapefruit and a whole cinnamon stick.
