Jean Marc De Silva, a great food, wine and beverage blogger

Yesterday I made the The Great Food, Wine & Beverage Bloggers announcement, where, weekly I will spotlight a “Great Food, Wine & Beverage Blogger who contributes insightful and humorous food, wine and beverage experiences making our world a better place to eat and drink. Our first spotlight blogger is home-grown from our fair Miami Beach. I actually know this blogger personally and am inspired by all his culinary adventures and thought who better to kick off this exciting new project of ours. I am speaking of none other than Jean Marc De Silva who recently spent time eating, drinking and blogging his way through Italy.

South Florida Food and Wine: How did you start food blogging?
Jean Marc De Silva: I was posting all my food experiences “on the road” and in the kitchen at home via photos on Facebook. Since Facebook and Twitter is such a limited social avenue to only your friends and followers, I thought a blog might be a great way to promote my experiences to the great www!

South Florida Food and Wine: Do you do anything else other than blog about food-wine-beverage?
Jean Marc De Silva: I am the advertising and marketing director for my partners insurance agency here in Miami Beach. I also run a small retail website, coolcosas.com  where I sell items of good design for men, women, children, the home, and even pets.

South Florida Food and Wine: What is the most challenging thing about blogging?
Jean Marc De Silva: This is also a resolution for the new year, being timely with my posts and if discussing a dish, being long winded enough to describe it with words that people can visualize and salivate!

South Florida Food and Wine: What is the greatest opportunity that has come from food-wine-beverage blogging for you?
Jean Marc De Silva: Meeting other individuals that are as passionate as me about good food, good wine, and good times and getting to take in some really great venues in the local food business and beyond.

South Florida Food and Wine: What is your most memorable blogging moment?
Jean Marc De Silva: Kevin Cory from NAOE Sushi in North Miami actually reaching out to me after posting my blog experience at NAOE being gracious to thank me for the plug and also sharing some “for your information” notes about his restaurant and its concept. Spoke volumes about who he is, what he does, and sharing that passion with others.

South Florida Food and Wine: It’s your last day on earth, what would your final meal be?
Jean Marc De Silva: Start with pan seared foie gras, then a simple pasta dish tossed in a brown butter sauce and topped with white truffle, an endless buffet of sushi, and then a tower of cupcakes!

South Florida Food and Wine: What super-action-figure-hero would you like to be and why?
Jean Marc De Silva: Batman, I would be forced to stay in shape to fit into his outfit!

South Florida Food and Wine: Do you have any bizarre kitchen habits?
Jean Marc De Silva: If you call making a mess of the kitchen for the other half to clean up bizarre!

South Florida Food and Wine: What is the best food advice you have to share?
Jean Marc De Silva: Cook for your pleasure first and that pleasure you find will be enjoyed by others who you cook for them.

South Florida Food and Wine: What is your one obsessive culinary habit?
Jean Marc De Silva: Loading up the dishwasher as each course goes by during a small dinner party. Does that contradict my answer to #8??

South Florida Food and Wine: If you could choose to be any food, what would it be?
Jean Marc De Silva: Sushi. So clean, so simple, and when eaten from a good chef, a sight to behold!

South Florida Food and Wine: If I looked in your refrigerator, what would I find?
Jean Marc De Silva: Not a fair question as I just got thru cleaning it out! But you would find a tub of every possible seasonal Hershey’s Kiss in the freezer!

South Florida Food and Wine: What is the one “staple” food you always have in your cupboard?
Jean Marc De Silva: Olive oil (oops! I need to buy more)

South Florida Food and Wine: What is your beverage of choice?
Jean Marc De Silva: Malbec red wine mostly to remember our time in Argentina. Great country!

South Florida Food and Wine: What is your favorite comfort food?
Jean Marc De Silva: Fried chicken with all the trimmings.
South Florida Food and Wine: What is your culinary claim to fame?
Jean Marc De Silva: My tapas nights that I host with a mish-mosh of friends at our home. It is special because all the work is done before guests arrive so I spend majority of my time enjoying my friends!
