The Rusty Hook Tavern Pompano Beach

At its three month mark The Rusty Hook Tavern in Pompano Beach is beginning to show off what it’s got cooking with modest shyness. Rusty Hook’s piece de resistance is its prime waterfront location on the intracoastal, attached to the Sands Harbor Resort & Marina; its calling card and backbone is the equally modest team behind the newly opened restaurant, owner operators, Kareem Lakchira, Andy Patton and Nader “Ned” Jaouhar (Executive Chef). This trio has a long professional, and successful history together dating back to the opening of the now closed Cielo at the Boca Raton Resort & Club in 2007.

Slow and steady wins the race, I’m venturing to say is the motto at this friendly new restaurant. With culinary and hospitality management chops as solid as Lakchira’s, Patton’s and Jaouhar’s I’m betting their business plan for The Rusty Hook Tavern is equally as rock solid. Their work history is interesting to say the least, running the scope from fine dining at the Boca Raton Resort and Club to operating the uber casual joint, Dixie Tracks in Oakland Park. Yet the one common thread they have used to sow their professional strides with is the level of quality in both food and service that mirrors each establishment the tireless trio have touched.

The Rusty Hook Tavern is a casual waterfront restaurant with a friendly menu appealing to residents and visitors alike. Appetizers start at $4 for Deviled Eggs and run the scale to $10 for Blackened Swordfish Bites. Shared plates are moderately priced, ceviche $11, crab cakes $12, pork belly $12 and octopus $15. Entrées begin at $12 for the Spicy Pork Rigatoni and climb to $29 for Surf n Turf. Burgers and sandwiches range from $14-$16. Kareem Lakchira’s passion is cocktails and mixology. Lakshira developed the cocktails and created cocktail list, another personal investment into this business.

There are big hopes, plans, and ideas riding on this joint venture and with the ideal draw of a waterfront location pulling in the guests, I’ll say it’s their long-term hospitality experience and loyal following that will keep people coming back. Wine dinners, weekly clam bakes, weekend brunch with unlimited mimosas and bloody mary’s and nightly happy hours are now being offered along with live music every Thursday.
